Before i begin on a topic that i have been meaning to write about for a very long time, let me begin by saying this: i've finally found a heroine that is beyond description, beyond praise, far above being put on a mere ' pedestal ranking ' and more than anything else - someone who is innately so perfect a human being, that she is more than an idol - but is as close to a heavenly saint without being angelic, as a human can ever be.
Sacriligeous? Maybe...
...
Ofcourse, the irony of the above statement is that this particular herione does not exist in our world. Rather in a world of our own making. Which in itself is of greatest joy and sadness. But, if a person like her does exist in this world, i think i'd give most of my possesions just to be able to meet her.
So you ask what this is all about?
Its an 'idea'. The figure of a heroine. What is it that makes a heroine stand taller, and tower above all the others that we have seen - real or fiction.
But as said before, this character is fictional - so it is obviously not a fair judgement in comparison to real heroes/heroines.
I'll stop dallying.
For a heroine to be the heroine i described before, they must have something precious within them. Something that sets them apart from all the rest.
That 'something' is simple.
Our 'fictional' heroine must be above all - female. You can snicker at that, but by female, i mean everything that is feminine must remain - the desire to nurture, to protect loved ones, the desire to be protected by loved ones, the ability to sacrifice things that are most precious to herself in order to give life to others.
Too often we have heroines ( fictional ) that lose that part of themselves - the feminity. Oh, i dont mean the physical bit.
What i mean, is that many heroines in fiction have had parts of their 'feminine soul' transformed somehow, warped in order to fulfil their desires. [ note: Yes. I am a believer in the existence and difference of 'female'/'male' souls ] Even if that desire is an unselfish, NOBLE desire - a part of their feminine nature is lost somewhere along their harsh unforgiving path.
How often have we seen heroines transform from a normal 'femine' girls into great warriors, amazing inspiring leaders, trustworthy comrades? How often have we seen those same women crushed by between the hammer of tragedy and the anvil of despair over and over again?
Count the number and remember their names. A few would do.
Now ask yourself this.
How MANY retain their feminity. The qualities that make them so heart wrenchingly endearing? How many can still claim to have their 'feminine souls' intact and shining after their ordeals?
I've counted, and found only one. MAYBE a close second. But that's a VERY big maybe.
I was astounded by two facts: first, how come i'd never thought about this, and second, how i could have ever forgotten about this heroine. [ i have a answer to the latter, but not to the first ]
Feminity. One world that includes SO MUCH of the 'ideal' - LOVE, LOYALTY, ENCOMPASSING COMPASSION for all life, PASSION, MOTHERHOOD, LIFE GIVER, LIFE NURTURER, HOPE and the everlasting, neverending capacity for SACRIFICE.
How many heroines in our fictions pull through with all that shining at the end, no matter how heart-wrenchingly tragic their story is? No matter how much HELP they've had?
A very, very rare few.
So, it is with a heavy heart, and an invigorated consciousness that i'll relegate one heroine, and only one heroine to the 'idea' of my prefect heroine.
Her name is Saya.
Saya Otonashi. Saya from Blood+.
She is someone who transformed from a normal girl, with normal hopes and dreams, went through the forge of denial, hopelessness, tragedy after tragedy, loss and loss without end, unconditional tragic love, and then despair with feelings of utter helplessness. Yet, even at the end she retains all her feminity. Every last glorious, shining, bits of it.
This has been a tribute to her. And a tribute to those genius's that helped bring her character to life.
Would it be futile to hope for someone like her in one's life? I'm not sure. Maybe its impossible to be like Saya.
Perhaps, there can only be a fictional Saya.
Or ...
Maybe ... just maybe...
Devious Comments
I loved it a lot, even WITH its deviation from the manga. In my opinion its better'n seeing everything from the manga appearing scene for scene in the anime.
The change is good. (on the other hand, i didn't like how they changed some of the basic make up of the characters)
